State Rep. Martina White recently presented Korean War veteran William Deabler with the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador of Peace medal.
“I cannot tell you how special it was to present the Ambassador of Peace medal to Mr. Deabler,” White said. “It was through his dedication and the sacrifice of men and women like him that the United States was able to preserve freedom on the Korean peninsula.”
The ceremony was held at FOP Senior Citizens Inc., in conjunction with Sen. Pat Toomey’s office.
The Ambassador of Peace medal was created by the Republic of South Korea to honor American military veterans who served in the conflict from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. It is also given to veterans who participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations until the end of 1955.
“I want to thank all Korean War vets for their service,” White said. ••
